Retrofitting social housing: a funding roadmap (full report)

In 2021 THFC began working with consultants Buro Happold to build a deeper understanding of the retrofit challenge facing housing associations and the complexities of funding it. Buro Happold developed models to test the impact of a number of retrofit interventions on different dwelling types, and the cost savings associated with them. This produced a range of ‘retrofit scenarios’ which could be adjusted for both grant and debt funding to analyse the financial viability of retrofitting social housing stock.

The result was ‘Retrofitting social housing: a funding roadmap’. This major report demonstrates the need for a new mixed funding model to make it possible to quickly scale up retrofitting projects across the sector.
