ESG and Sustainable Investment

At THFC, sustainability has always been at the heart of everything we do.

As the largest aggregator to the social housing sector, we have been delivering social value from the beginning. Since our inception in 1987, we have channelled billions of pounds of funding to registered providers of social housing, who have used these funds to develop new affordable housing, retrofit existing homes, and help their communities thrive.

THFC launched its refreshed corporate strategy in summer 2024, which is focused on growth and delivering innovative new financial solutions. We believe this updated strategy will enable us to better deliver our core purpose: to enable the affordable housing sector to build and improve homes and create sustainable communities across the UK.

Sustainability and ESG will continue to play a critical role in THFC’s strategy going forward. To succeed in helping create sustainable communities across the UK, THFC will not only need to engage with its customers about their ESG progress, but crucially, we will need to look inward as well.

As part of this refreshed corporate strategy, THFC will look to:

Develop new and innovative sustainable finance products to hasten the retrofitting of the UK’s social housing and stimulate the sustainable growth of the affordable housing sector

Engage meaningfully with the net zero agenda so that we, along with our customers and wider stakeholders, are on track to thrive in a low carbon future

Enhance our sustainability reporting to better communicate with our stakeholders, increase transparency in the markets, and ensure we are well positioned to continue attracting investment

Our aim is for THFC to evolve from an emerging voice to a trusted leader in ESG and sustainability, within the social housing sector and beyond. We believe that with the above commitments in place, we will be well placed to achieve this.
