The Housing Finance Corporation (THFC) has made a donation to More than Homes, the UK housing sector’s campaign to raise £1m for the Trussell Trust

The Housing Finance Corporation (THFC) has made a donation to More than Homes, the UK housing sector’s campaign to raise £1m for the Trussell Trust.

THFC hosted a seminar entitled “Health and Housing: What Can Be Done to Help Maintain Tenants’ Wellbeing this Winter?” on the 9th of November and has donated £100 on behalf of each person that participated in the seminar. The donation amount totalled £7,200.

The Housing Finance Corporation (THFC) has proudly supported More than Homes from the beginning. THFC has now donated to More than Homes on four occasions and will continue to advocate for its work. By supporting the campaign, THFC believes the social housing sector has the unique opportunity to collaborate to fight hunger across the UK.

The More than Homes campaign, led by Accent Housing, launched in 2020 as a response to the increased demand for foodbanks during the pandemic. To date, over £430,000 has been raised to fight hunger across the UK, and that number continues to grow. The campaign has seen the sector come together to raise vital funds and support the work of the Trussell Trust, tackling stigma which can prevent people turning to sources of help and raising awareness of the root cause of food poverty and steps needed to overcome it.

Piers Williamson, Chief Executive of THFC, said: “According to Trussell Trust research, 46% of referrals to them are social housing tenants. In the last six months alone, Trussell state they have distributed 1.5 million three-day parcels, with just over a third of these parcels going to children. This level of demand is shocking and highlights the critical nature of the Trussel Trust’s work. It is clear to us that many health issues are intertwined with the use of foodbanks, so we are particularly keen to support More Than Homes as we approach another enormously difficult winter for social housing tenants.”

Stacey Healey, Head of Communications and Public Affairs at Accent Group and leader of the More than Homes campaign, said: “This very generous donation pays testament once again to the unwavering support THFC have given since the campaign’s launch. The donation and continued promotion of the work of More than Homes to help address the devastating impact on food poverty across our communities is making a real difference to those who most need help.”
